First Triathalon

The first triathalon that Paulina entered and participated in was a real thrill. She started out swimming a good length of the pool (in a straight line like everybody because each child had their own lane). Then she quickly transitioned into the biking segment where she gained some momentum. Afterward, she left her helmet with her bicycle and went on to run the final leg of the triathalon. It was a long run and she found it very trying after having just swum and biked. Nevertheless, Paulina completed the Tri-Fun race with pizzazz running in and around the pilons to the finish line. The announcer caught on to Paulina's spirit and reported that "Paulina looks like she is slaloming - she must be a skiier - what a great finish." She was then presented with a medal and walked to wind down.

Social Studies

Paulina had an interesting time creating a Theatre for her Social Studies class project. She drew and coloured a scene from the Disney movie, Frozen onto thin tissue paper (so she had to practice care using pencil and marker). This was the theme of her Theatre and she worked thoughtfully and diligently to create just what she wanted. Paulina then presented it successfully in class in French, saying C'est un cinema dans un grand cite.

Writing Journals

Paulina practices her writing in her English writing journal as you can see here from early on and she progressed well as you scroll down.

Paulina has moved into writing in a larger journal as you can see below.

She also likes to write things, phrases, and in this case lyrics to the song from the Disney movie, Frozen.

Mathematics And More!

Paulina has been steadily excelling in Math at school and at home. She often brings Math worksheets home with many check marks indicating her knowledge in Math is excellent. She has been working at home with simple addition, subtraction using abstract numbers, numbers in word sentences, amounts of values of coins, equations, measurement, data management, and most recently time (both analogue and digital) to name some examples of content. Here is an example of how creativity played a part in her learning experience as she made this paper analogue clock in class.

Confidence

By reading "I like Myself" Paulina is learning about self confidence and how to develop it. She knows that when she knows something really well she will feel confident. She knows all about The Chronicles of Narnia, with her favourite being 'Prince Caspian;'  The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian. She is confident in her knowledge of this movie.

Reading in French!

Wow! It's been less that a year, 8 months actually, that Paulina has been learning a new language. She has been so diligent that she has build up a sound basic vocabulary in French. She can read simple sentences - what an accomplishment!

Citizenship

As a Spark, Paulina earned her camping badge over the weekend of April 11 - 13th when she went on a retreat approximately 50 km from home. Paulina actively participated in a treasure hunt, crafts, hike, successfully spotted deer tracks, roasted hot dogs, sang campfire songs and enjoyed a smore!

Paulina proved to be a good citizen when she sang songs to the elderly citizens at an old folks home in Mississauga later in April.

She also participated with the successful sales of the Girl Guide Cookies with her age group known as the Sparks.

Reading French

Paulina with some encouragement successfully reads French. The reason she doesn't want to read these books is because she thinks they are 'baby' books.

Here are a couple of examples of what she is currently reading.

Certificate of Achievement

Paulina has excelled in many ways as she has grown over the past couple of years. She has received certificates for some of her achievements. Here are a few.  The first one is a certificate of successfully completing one year of dance with The Canadian Dance Company, 2011/2012.

The next one is a certificate for successfully completing Kindergarten, 2013.

This one is a certificate acknowledging an award Paulina received named the 'Caring Award from The Credit Valley School,' 2013.

French Reading

Paulina has enjoyed reading English very much. She has been developing her skills in French to the point she can read in French too!

Here are a couple of books which she has read by herself with only a little help over this past weekend!

Favourite Sketch

This is Paulina's favourite sketch!

This sketch shows active people windsurfing in the summer with a palm tree off to one side! She got this idea from the sketch kit.

Sketching strokes

Paulina is developing a variety of sketching strokes while she is learning to sketch.

Here are some examples.

Some of these sketching strokes are used for shading purposes, which she is doing here.

More Sketching Skills

Paulina learned from her Artist Kit which she received for Christmas and she immediately began practicing these skills.

She learned perspective by showing the lines in the front of the page are wider than the lines as they recede back into the picture, along the railroad track.

Paulina continued to sketch and colour the following pictures of a tulip and a skyline.
