Reading in French!

Wow! It's been less that a year, 8 months actually, that Paulina has been learning a new language. She has been so diligent that she has build up a sound basic vocabulary in French. She can read simple sentences - what an accomplishment!

Citizenship

As a Spark, Paulina earned her camping badge over the weekend of April 11 - 13th when she went on a retreat approximately 50 km from home. Paulina actively participated in a treasure hunt, crafts, hike, successfully spotted deer tracks, roasted hot dogs, sang campfire songs and enjoyed a smore!

Paulina proved to be a good citizen when she sang songs to the elderly citizens at an old folks home in Mississauga later in April.

She also participated with the successful sales of the Girl Guide Cookies with her age group known as the Sparks.

English Language

Paulina is developing her English language skills concurrently with learning a second language and she has been able to keep the two separate successfully. Her English is developing well. She listens and responds promptly to grammatical revisions when speaking at home in English, her first language.

Attention to Detail

Paulina is creating more drawings with much attention to detail. She likes creating a sense of 'mixed media'
pieces by including stickers in her drawings.

Reading French

Paulina with some encouragement successfully reads French. The reason she doesn't want to read these books is because she thinks they are 'baby' books.

Here are a couple of examples of what she is currently reading.

Winter Olympics

Paulina is very active and enjoys watching the Olympic events. She watched figure skating, women's hockey, men's hockey, and skiing to name a few. This is something that she took the initiative to do on her own.
