Developing Sketching skills

Paulina spent some quality time learning key skills in sketching.

Paulina worked to develop her scale of sketching from small to large. Here she began sketching small things in a small way. You can see she drew a mouse, an ant, and a turtle which are small things.

She began drawing bigger on the page, seen here.

Then Paulina was able to stretch her sketching skills to draw a larger picture
on the page, seen below. She covered the entire page with a house, garage, car going into the garage, chimney, front door with a wreath, steps in front of the house, and someone skating on a backyard rink, while there was snow coming down.

While she was developing her sketching skills Paulina practiced using light strokes, medium strokes and heavy strokes, seen below.

Supporting the Olympians!

Paulina went to Wise-Adventures and made Wise luck charms for the Canadian Olympians who are going to Sochi this Spring. She and her friend, Carrisa  created some bracelets and they had so much fun together!

French Reading

Paulina has been learning to read French in school and she practices at home. Here are some of the books which she began to learn the words by hearing me pronounce them followed by repeating each of the words after me. She moved on to repeating phrases and whole sentences.

Writing

Paulina is developing her writing skills as seen here by answering a question to the book she read.

Paulina likes to read and write! She likes to look at the pictures and to think of what is happening in the pictures. She enjoys books!

Improved Reading Results

Paulina's reading level has improved! She read many books over the holidays and has returned to school at a higher reading level - Horray!

Here are some of the books from the Alpha Kids reading program which she is reading fluently.

Paulina's Progress is Positive!

Paulina is now reading books by herself that extend beyond the phonics readers to the 'begin to read' level. For example, here are a few books she has successfully read by herself over the past week. "I Can Read with My Eyes Shut" by Dr. Seuss, "Draw Me a Star" by Eric Carle, and "Quick, Quack, Quick!" by Marsha Arnold. Go Paulina, Go! Keep up the good work!

Paulina is now very interested in the Rapunzel literacy games on Leap Frog Explorer and she will be playing them tomorrow on our way to BSS for the Junior School Open House - just to have a 'look-see.' :-)

Early Morning Practice

Paulina is diligently working on a comprehensive Reading program which includes some writing (printing)! She gets up early each morning to begin the day with exercises in reading. She practices three times a day and she is improving her English at an exponential rate!

Her goal is to improve her reading by 5 levels over the course of the next two months. Wish her luck! :-)
